Hailing from the Loire Valley of France, Frederic Chartier is a true French Chef. Before settling in Shelburne, Ontario, he spent over 20 years working around the globe. From working with celebrity chefs to cooking in Michelin star restaurants and for a Ritz Carlton, Chef Fred draws on a wide range of culinary experiences and influences.
After working in the Cayman Islands and the United States for over 6 years, Chef Fred moved to Canada and proudly became a Canadian Citizen in March 2018. Opening his own restaurant has been a life long dream that was realized in 2017, when Beyond the Gate first opened its doors. You can see Chef Fred preparing your meal from the open-view kitchen and have a chat as he personally checks on most of the tables to ensure each customer's satisfaction. When he's not at the restaurant dreaming up his next special, you can find him spending time with his wife, Jodie and their three children.
