Beyond The Gate
Beyond the Gate is an eclectic French restaurant and creperie tucked away in the heart of Shelburne, ON. While many of the dishes are inspired by Chef Fred's homeland, he also pulls inspiration from all over the world. The miso-soy infused halibut showcases Asian flavours, as does the Thai Curry Shrimp. Chef Fred is also known to make a mean burger and fries, along with delicious wings! All meat and produce is sourced locally whenever possible.
The atmosphere is casual and quaint with a view of the kitchen. Our small restaurant provides and intimate experience and is the ideal space for dinner with friends and family or a date with that special someone. The restaurant can also be used for private functions with your very own executive chef. Due to the intimate size of the restaurant, reservations are highly recommended. Hailing from the Loire Valley of France, Frederic Chartier is a true French Chef. Before settling in Shelburne, Ontario, he spent over 20 years working around the globe. From working with celebrity chefs to cooking in Michelin star restaurants and for a Ritz Carlton, Chef Fred draws on a wide range of culinary experiences and influences.
After working in the Cayman Islands and the United States for over 6 years, Chef Fred moved to Canada and proudly became a Canadian Citizen in March 2018. Opening his own restaurant has been a life long dream that was realized in 2017, when Beyond the Gate first opened its doors. You can see Chef Fred preparing your meal from the open-view kitchen and have a chat as he personally checks on most of the tables to ensure each customer's satisfaction. When he's not at the restaurant dreaming up his next special, you can find him spending time with his wife, Jodie and their three children.
